Tyre Nichols: Death of Black Man Who Was A Victim Of White Police (Preston Hemphill) Brutality

Earlier reports from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said that on January 7, five officers stopped Nichols for a traffic violation.

Shortly after the first stop, I had another contact with Nichols, and there was a “physical encounter” that followed.

Nichols later underwent medical treatment for several wounds before passing away on January 10.

Preston Hemphill: Who Is He?

After an investigation into the detention and demise of Tyre Nichols, 29, a sixth Memphis, Tennessee, police officer has been fired.

Officer Preston Hemphill has been relieved of duty while the Memphis Police Department’s administrative inquiry is ongoing, according to a statement provided to Newsweek by a department spokesperson. Hemphill is white, as evidenced by images shared on social media.

The spokeswoman stated, “Officer Hemphill was hired in 2018.” “This is still being looked into. When more details become available, we’ll update our social media channels.”

Four days prior to the news on Monday, five additional ex-Memphis police officers were relieved of duty and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Black man Nichols, 29, who was a victim of police brutality.

Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Desmond Mills Jr., Emmitt Martin III, and Justin Smith were the names of the five cops. Additional charges against each of the five included aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, government misconduct, and official oppression. The five officers are all Black males.

When Memphis published the body camera footage of Nichols’ arrest shortly after the five cops were accused of wrongdoing, it spurred nationwide demonstrations against police violence.

Additionally, Davis declared that the Scorpion team, or the Street Crimes Operations to Restore Peace In Our Neighborhoods, had been abolished by the Memphis Police Department.

The Memphis Police Department stated in a news release that “it is in the best interest of all to permanently deactivate the SCORPION Unit after listening attentively to the family of Tyre Nichols, community leaders, and the uninvolved officers who have done outstanding job in their assignments.”

“While the horrific deeds of a few shed a stain of disgrace on the title SCORPION, it is vital that we, the Memphis Police Department, take proactive steps in the healing process for all impacted,” said the Memphis Police Department.

Tyre Nichols: Mother

Nichols’ mother, RowVaughn, revealed what she observed after seeing her son in the hospital after his arrest in a recent interview with CNN.

He was covered in bruises, she said. “Like a watermelon, his head was bloated. The edema was so bad that it was busting his neck. His neck was broken. My son had a nose that resembled a S. In reality, they just beat the hell out of him.”

Tyre Nichols was searching for a new life in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a father, a man who adored his mother, and a free spirit.

That person’s life was brutally cut short earlier this month following a violent arrest by five Memphis Police officers.

Tyre Nichols: Age

Nichols’ family wants the world to know the kind of man Nichols was as attention focuses on the five former policemen who, according to court filings, are accused of second-degree murder in relation to his passing.

The youngest of four children, the 29-year-old native of Sacramento, California, was the baby of his family.

According to his mother, RowVaughn Wells, he was a “nice guy” who spent his Sundays doing laundry and getting ready for the week.

He frequently expressed the desire to become well-known. I was unaware that this was what he meant, Wells said at a press conference on Friday.

Wells told CNN’s Don Lemon on Friday morning that she will most forget her son’s “beautiful smile.”

She vowed never to prepare meals for her kid again. I’ll never again receive a hug from my son. For the simple reason that some officers decided they wanted to hurt my son, I won’t receive anything else from him.

Tyre Nichols: Was A Family Man

Above all else, Nichols adored his son and loved being a parent, according to his family.

At the family’s news conference, attorney Benjamin Crump stated, “He was trying to better himself as a father for his 4-year-old boy with everything he was attempting to accomplish.”

Nichols was a person who made everyone happy. Crump spoke on behalf of Nichols’ family and stated, “When he enters through the door, he wants to give you a hug.”

Wells remarked, “He was a good man. “I simply feel like my son was brought here on assignment,” the woman said. “All the good in Tyre will come out and that’s what keeps me going.”

Prior to the Covid-19 epidemic, Nichols relocated to Memphis, where he was stuck when operations ceased, according to his mother. She said, “But he was fine with it since he loved his mother.

His obituary stated that he was getting ready to move himself and his son Milo (Nichols) permanently to Memphis.

His mother remarked that he loved her “to death” and had permanently tattooed his affection for her.

Wells laughed as she stated, “He had my name tattooed on his arm, and that made me proud because most kids don’t put their mom’s name, but he did.

She remarked, “My son was a wonderful person and he impacted everyone.

Nichols is survived by his son, stepfather, mother, sister, two brothers, grandmother, and a large number of other family members.

Tyre Nichols: Friends

According to his friend Nate Spates Jr., Nichols made friends with a strange assortment of folks because they all frequently showed up at the same Starbucks at roughly the same time each morning.

In order to be present and enjoy each other’s company, these five or six friends would get together a few times a week, according to Spates, who first met Nichols about a year ago at a Starbucks in Germantown, Tennessee.

The gang seldom discussed politics or their personal lives in great detail. However, discussions about sports, particularly football and Nichols’ preferred team, the San Francisco 49ers, frequently came up.

According to Spates, Nichols was a “free spirited person, a gentleman who marched to the beat of his own drum.” “He enjoyed what he enjoyed. It’s okay if you share his preferences. If you didn’t, that’s okay.

Spates claimed that he noticed a young man who was seeking his own path and developing self-confidence in Nichols and saw a reflection of himself in him.

According to Spates, he witnessed Nichols mature and begin to think he could accomplish anything “he set out to do in this world.”

On Spates’ birthday last year, Nichols met Spates’ wife and 3-year-old at their regular Starbucks, which became Spates’ fondest memory of Ty, as he nicknamed Nichols. He observed Nichols playing with his young child and being courteous to his wife.

“My wife responded, ‘I simply really like his soul,’ as we drove away. He has such a positive attitude, Spates added.

It takes a lot of depth to talk about someone’s soul, he observed. “When she said it, I’ll never forget it. I’ll never forget that about him.
