Marizanne Kapp: Early Life

She was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, on September 1st, 1989, and her birthday is September 1st.

In her younger years, she had a bit of a tomboyish personality. The fundamentals of the game were taught to her by her nephew.

She began playing indoor cricket when she was 13 years old, but after her mother petitioned the principal of her school to let her compete against guys there, she was completely turned off by the sport and hasn’t touched it since.

She and Dane Van Niekerk, the captain of South Africa’s national cricket team, were the first two women to play for Eastern Province Cricket Academy in a men’s match. At the age of 19, she made her World Cup debut in the match against Australia in Newcastle during the 2009 tournament.

She has competed for her state in the disciplines of netball, athletics, and biathlon, demonstrating her diverse range of athletic abilities.

Marizanne Kapp is a South African international cricketer who was born on January 4, 1990. She now competes for the South African national women’s cricket team. She was the first cricket player to ever do so for South Africa in a Women’s Twenty20 International match. Her hat-trick was the first of its kind.

Kapp is a multi-talented sportswoman who has competed for her province in netball, athletics, biathlon, and lifesaving.

She also made history by becoming the first female cricketer to be included in the Eastern Province Cricket Academy alongside Dane van Niekerk, where she trained alongside male cricketers.

She has represented South Africa in all three formats of the game, and she made her debut on the international stage in the sixth match of the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2009, which was played against Australia.

Her first Twenty20 International match was also against Australia, and it was played during the World Twenty20 that same year.

During the following Women’s World Cup, Kapp continued to show off her remarkable form by scoring 102 runs against Pakistan and sharing a record-setting 128-run partnership with Dane van Niekerk while she was batting.

Both of these achievements helped set a new benchmark for the competition. This led to two South African records being set: the highest ever partnership score at a Women’s World Cup, as well as the greatest ever individual score by a South African player at a Women’s World Cup.

In a match that she played against Bangladesh in September 2013, Kapp also became the third and only woman to ever score a hat trick in a Twenty20 International.

When Kapp joined the Sydney Sixers in 2015, she was one of just four South Africans to play in the first season of the Big Bash League. This was because she was the only South African to be signed by a team in the league.

She was one of fourteen players to get a national contract from Cricket South Africa in March of 2018, in front of the 2018–19 season. During the match against the West Indies in September 2018, she achieved a milestone by claiming her 100th wicket in WODIs.

She was selected for the South African team that will compete in the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 competition that was held in the West Indies in October 2018. She scored 98 runs throughout the course of South Africa’s four games in the competition, making her the tournament’s best run-scorer.

She was given a spot on the Sydney Sixers roster in November 2018, in preparation for the 2018–19 Women’s Big Bash League season. In the first one-day international match that South Africa played against Pakistan in May 2019, Kapp became the third cricketer in South African history to play in 100 WODI matches.

It was announced in September 2019 that she would be playing for the M van der Merwe XI in the first season of the Women’s T20 Super League in South Africa.

She was selected to be part of South Africa’s squad in January 2020 for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which would be held in Australia.

 On July 23, 2020, Kapp was given a spot in the 24-woman South African squad that was assigned to begin training in Pretoria in preparation for a tour of England. She was selected by Oval Invincibles to be a part of their team for the first season of The Hundred in 2021.

She was selected to play for South Africa at the Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand in 2022, which took place in February of that year. Kapp achieved her maiden five-wicket haul in Women’s One-Day International cricket on March 14, 2022, when South Africa played England in a World Cup match.

In April of 2022, the Oval Invincibles made the purchase of her services in preparation for the 2022 season of The Hundred in England. During the 2022 FairBreak Invitational T20, which took place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in May 2022, she participated in two matches for the Falcons team.

She scored 67* with six fours and two sixes in the Invitational final match against the Tornadoes team, and she was named player of the match for her amazing performance; nonetheless, it was not enough to prevent the Tornadoes from winning the tournament.

In the one-off Test that took place in June 2022 between England and Kapp, Kapp made her first century in Test cricket by scoring 150 runs. In a women’s Test match, her total was also the highest individual score for South Africa.

It was announced in July 2022 that she would be playing for South Africa in the cricket competition that would be held at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. However, Kapp was eventually forced to withdraw from the competition because of obligations to his family.
