Dané van Niekerk is a South African cricketer who was born on May 14, 1993, in Pretoria. He attended Horskool Centurion for his secondary education.
As a leg spin bowler, she has represented South Africa in Test matches, One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), and she has led the South African women’s team in all three formats (Test, ODI, and T20I) since June 2016, when she was named team captain.
She was the first bowler in South African women’s one-day international history to take 100 wickets.

Dane van Niekerk: Bio
In spite of the fact that Dane van Niekerk began her playing career as a leg-spinner, she quickly shown her prowess with the bat and was moved up the batting order as a result of her success.
Her first claim to fame was when she became the first female cricketer to join the men’s side at the Eastern Province cricket academy. This achievement made her the first person to be inducted into the men’s side of the academy.
Her first matches in T20 Internationals and One-Day Internationals were both in 2009, during their respective World Cups. The then 16-year-old had only played in her second One-Day International when she recorded the impressive figures of 3-11 against Sri Lanka.
The all-rounder also accomplished a first for South Africa by becoming the country’s first female to take a hat-trick, which she did in 2013 against West Indies.
One year later, in a Women’s World Twenty20 game against Bangladesh, van Niekerk and Lizelle Lee came together to post 163, which at the time was the biggest undefeated opening stand in the history of women’s international Twenty20 cricket.
In June of 2016, van Niekerk succeeded Mignon du Preez as South Africa’s captain across all competition formats. Du Preez had previously held the position but had since resigned.
She continued to dominate her team’s bowling attack, even to the point that she topped the list of bowlers who took wickets at the 2017 Women’s World Cup.
van Niekerk has participated in all five seasons of the Big Bash League and has played for both the Melbourne Renegades and the Sydney Sixers. He has also played in all of the tournament’s matches.
Dane van Niekerk: Domestic Career
Prior to becoming one of the first two South African females, along with Marizanne Kapp, to be included in the Eastern Province cricket team academy for the men’s squad, she competed locally for Highveld Women and Northerns Women.
She was a member of the Melbourne Renegades team that competed in the inaugural season of the Australian Women’s Big Bash League in 2015. This season took place in 2015.
She was given a spot on the Sydney Sixers roster in November 2018, in preparation for the 2018–19 Women’s Big Bash League season. She was given a spot on the Devnarain XI squad in September 2019, and she will be participating in the first ever Women’s T20 Super League competition in South Africa.
She was selected by Oval Invincibles to be a part of their team for the first season of The Hundred in 2021. She scored 259 runs throughout the women’s Hundred competition, making her the player with the most overall runs scored.
She was acquired by the Oval Invincibles for the 2022 season of The Hundred in the month of April of that same year.

Dané van Niekerk: Career
She has become a regular member of the South African women’s cricket squad since she was chosen to participate in the 2009 Women’s Cricket World Cup in Australia as a member of the South African national women’s cricket team.
She represented South Africa at the Women’s World Twenty20 in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016 as well as playing in the Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2013. In 2013, she participated in the Women’s Cricket World Cup.
She made her debut in March 2009, at the age of 16, bowling leg-spin during a World Cup match against the West Indies at Newcastle.
The match was part of the tournament. She had a score of 3/11 in her second match, which South Africa won to secure seventh place in the tournament in Sydney.
The match was against Sri Lanka. Over the course of her career, she has matured into an all-rounder and established herself as an opening batter in Twenty20 Internationals.
She became the first South African woman to take an international hat-trick in January of 2013, as she finished with 5 wickets out of 28 in a One-Day International match against the West Indies.
One month later, during a match against Pakistan that was part of the World Cup, she achieved her first ODI half century with a score of 55 not out. She was in a partnership with Marizanne Kapp that scored 128 runs, which was the highest score ever scored by South Africa for the sixth wicket.
Van Niekerk achieved her second five-wicket haul in an ODI during her match against Pakistan in January of 2014.
She finished with a score of 5/17. She was the first woman player from South Africa to ever collect two five-wicket hauls in one-day internationals.
Later on that year, at the Women’s World T20I, she scored 90 not out in an unbroken partnership with Lizelle Lee that scored 163 runs.
This is the second highest individual score in Twenty20 Internationals by a South African woman and the second highest partnership in the history of women’s Twenty20 Internationals.
Following Mignon du Preez’s decision to step down as captain of the South Africa women’s team, on June 21, 2016, she was given the position of captain for all forms of the game (including tests, ODIs, and T20 Internationals).
She became became the seventh player to score 1,000 runs and capture 100 wickets in Women’s One-Day Internationals during the qualifier for the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup in February of 2017.
In Women’s One-Day Internationals, she also became the first player to ever do so for South Africa.
She went on to set a record for recording the best bowling figures for South Africa in the history of the Women’s World Cup, as well as become the first bowler in the history of international cricket, male or female, to take four wickets without allowing a single run to be scored against them.
She did this while playing for South Africa. She also took 15 wickets while competing in the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2017, making her the player who took the most wickets overall.
She was selected as one of the players for the ICC Women’s One-Day International Team of the Year in December of 2017.
She was one of fourteen players to get a national contract from Cricket South Africa in March of 2018, in front of the 2018–19 season.
She was given the role of captain of South Africa’s squad for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20, which was held in the West Indies, in October 2018.
Ahead of the competition, it was decided that she would be the most important player on the team and one of the players to keep an eye on. With six wickets taken over South Africa’s four games in the competition, she finished tied for the tournament’s joint-leading wicket-taker.
She earned her first century in a WODI match in February 2019, when she played Sri Lanka Women.
The match was her first versus Sri Lanka Women. She also became the fourth cricketer for South Africa Women to score 2,000 runs in WODIs [35], and she became the fourth woman to achieve the double of reaching 2,000 runs and taking 100 wickets in WODIs. In the process, she became the fourth cricketer for South Africa Women to score 2,000 runs in WODIs.
At the annual awards ceremony hosted by Cricket South Africa in August 2019, she was honoured with the title of Women’s Cricketer of the Year.
She was given the role of captaining South Africa’s team for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia in January of 2020.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in 2020. On the 23rd of July in the year 2020, van Niekerk was given a spot in South Africa’s 24-woman team that was assigned to begin training in Pretoria in preparation for a trip of England.

Dané van Niekerk: Four Wickets, No Runs
Four outs, and not a single run scored! Van Niekerk blows Windies away
On Sunday, the West Indies were humiliated in the Women’s World Cup as a result of a spectacular bowling performance by the skipper of South Africa, Dane van Niekerk. van Niekerk took four wickets while allowing no runs.
At the Grace Road ground in Leicester, the Windies were bowled out for a meagre 48 runs despite having won the Twenty20 World Cup and being in second place at the most recent 50-over World Cup in 2013.
Marizanne Kapp finished with bowling figures of 4-14 from seven overs for the Proteas, although those numbers were significantly overshadowed by Van Niekerk’s incredible return to the crease.
Merissa Aguilleira, Shanel Daley, Chedean Nation (who was easily the Windies’ top scorer with 26 runs), and Qiana Joseph were all dismissed by the captain in rapid succession, which brought an end to a terrible innings that featured five ducks.
After 3.2 overs, Van Niekerk ended with a score of 4-0. We believe that those numbers would be accepted by anyone.
